New Visitor Cabin for Saddleworth Recreation Park

Saddleworth's Recreation Park will be the site of a new visitor cabin, which is set to be built after receiving insurance funds from last year's fire which destroyed the local RSL building.

The Recreation Park is a popular camping spot for travellers, with the Clare & Gilbert Valleys Council hoping the new cabin will attract more visitors to the town.

The community space is managed by the town’s peak body, the Saddleworth District Community Association, in conjunction with the Saddleworth Recreation Park sub-committee.

Saddleworth District Community Association member Rosie Richardson said: “With the RSL building block still under discussion we are asking residents to submit designs and ideas for the future of the space."

Facilities at the park - the former Saddleworth Showgrounds site - include a cricket ground, playground, pavilion and cricket clubrooms which are also used regularly by the local art and craft group.

There are practice nets and a new turf wicket at the oval thanks to some welcome grant funding and there have been some two-day State cricket events on the grounds.

For visitors, there are 10 powered caravan sites and camping spots.
