Boosting Barossa's Bushgardens

Barossa's Bushgardens will receive a $73,000 boost to increase the visibility and community use of the local precinct for recreation, leisure and cultural activities.

Jointly funded by The Barossa Council and the State Government’s Open Space grant funding, the project will feature walking and cycle paths, signage, seating, shade and weather structures, landscaping and focus points within the Bushgardens.

Mayor Bob Sloane said the project recognises the Bushgardens is a significant natural and cultural destination in its own right, and is in the perfect location to link up with other significant Barossa sites.

“Improved walking and cycling paths will improve the connection with nearby destinations such as Coulthard Reserve, Nuriootpa linear park, Centennial Park recreation and sporting complex, the bush chapel and tourist accommodation.

“The Bushgardens is also a place for reflection, so improved signage and amenities such as shade and seating will encourage greater public use and engagement within this space.

“These improvements will encourage people to celebrate the culture, native vegetation and natural heritage of our region in meaningful ways, leading to positive outcomes for both our community and environmental sustainability,” Mayor Sloane said.

The project is also looking into masterplanning for the Nuriootpa Recreation Park and Coulthard Reserve as part of The Big Project.

Opportunities being explored include sporting infrastructure, shared use trails and passive recreation opportunities.
