Japanese Students Welcomed in Clare
16 students and 4 leaders from Clare's sister-town in Japan - Bizen - enjoyed a visit to the Mid North region earlier this month.
Clare & Gilbert Valleys Mayor Allan Aughey OAM welcomed the delegation which was home-hosted by families in Clare & Mintaro.
A busy schedule included school visits, coupled with local sightseeing.
Visitors enjoyed a unique indigenous art experience, home cooking using an oven, craft work and squash, with activities continuing in family homes with local food and games.
The weeklong visit concluded with a traditional Sayonara Party, hosted by the delegation, a visit to the Clare Valley Model Engineers Railway at Melrose Park and the Friendship Torii at the Gleeson Wetlands before the visitors left for Adelaide and their return trip to Japan.
“Council is greatly appreciative of the generosity of the host families, the school communities and the activity of organisers,” Mayor Aughey said.
Council is now seeking community members to join the Clare delegation to visit Japan in April 2018.
The delegation will be made up of up to 12 students and 6-8 community members and leaders.
Expressions of interest forms have been distributed to schools, and interested community members can contact Tania Dodd at the Clare Council office on 8842 6400 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
