Guitars, Opals Stolen in Coober Pedy

Coober Pedy Police wish to advise the public of a recent string of thefts in their community.

Since September, the outback township has experienced an unusual increase in the rate of break-ins at residential premises.

These break-ins are targeting distinctive property, including opal and other jewellery, Aboriginal artworks, electric equipment and musical instruments.

Some of the more notable items stolen include Fender and Martin and Co electric and acoustic guitars, wine, a Canon SLR digital camera, set and unset opals, a World Solar Challenge banner, a Megger electrical tag and test instrument and a men's Omega watch.

Anyone who sees any of these stolen items or is offered them for sale should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or their local police immediately.

Investigations into the break-ins are ongoing.

Residents are asked to be vigilant with their home security and to photograph and engrave any valuables.
