Fishers Get Crabby for the Right Reasons

Fishers around the Flow regions are gearing up for a bumper Blue Swimmer Crab season, with Primary Industries and Regions SA (PIRSA) reminding people to familiarise themselves with the new size, bag and boat limits.

According to PIRSA, the minimum legal size for a Blue Swimmer Crab is 11cm measured across the crabs shell from the base of the largest spines.

The bag limit for Blue Swimmer and Sand Crab is 20 per person per day and 60 per boat (where three or more people are on board).

All female crabs carrying eggs are protected, and if caught must be returned carefully to the water.

PIRSA said explained the limits, saying they are in place to "support the long-term sustainability for fish stocks."
