Truck Driver Arrested at Tailem Bend

A driver has been arrested following a compliance check as part of Operation Austrans at Tailem Bend yesterday.

Just before 6.30pm on Monday 4 December, police from the Heavy Vehicle Enforcement Section stopped the driver of a B-double as he was traveling along the Princes Highway.

Police will allege the man was not carrying and maintaining a work diary.

The man was drug tested and returned a positive result to methamphetamine.

Police also conducted a search of the prime mover and located a speed limiter override device fitted and secreted near the engine.

These devices can enable a truck to travel greater than 100km/h.

Further enquiries revealed the driver was disqualified.

The 25-year-old from country Victoria was charged with drive disqualified, fail carry work diary and possess speed limiter override device.

The man may also face a further charge of drug driving pending forensic analysis of the drug sample.

He has been bailed to appear in the Murray Bridge Magistrates Court on 5 February.
