Serious Crash Near Tailem Bend

Police and emergency services are at the scene of a serious crash at Elwomple, east of Tailem Bend.

About 5.30am on Friday 22 December, police and emergency services were called to the Mallee Highway about 5km’s east of the Dukes Highway turn off after a car collided with a tree.

The driver of the car sustained serious injuries in the crash and was airlifted to hospital for treatment.

The Mallee Highway is currently closed between the Dukes Highway and the Old Dukes Highway so please take alternate routes.

Major Crash Investigators are attending the scene.

UPDATE: A man has died following a crash at Elwomple, east of Tailem Bend.

The driver of the car was airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where he passed away tonight.

The 38-year-old Victorian man is the 97th person to die on South Australian roads this year, compared with 82 at the same time in 2016.
