Apollo Bay Resort Proposal Put on Pause

Apollo Bay's proposed tourist resort on the Barham River Road has been put on hold while Colac Otway Shire Council awaits response from the Victorian Planning Minister.

Council made a request in November for Minister Wynne to call in an application for the tourist resort, however a decision is not expected until after the Christmas break.

In a statement, the Council said it is likely the matter will be raised again when the Minister returns to portfolio duties in February.

Mayor Joe McCracken indicated it was extremely important Councillors did not pre-determine a position in relation to the development as it could create a conflict of interest for Councillors in the event the Minister decides to refer the matter back to Council.

Council will be briefed regarding the status of the Minister’s advice prior to the January 2018 Council, Meeting but are not expected to consider the matter at this meeting.
