Swimming Pool Upgrades Make a Splash in Ardlethan and Ganmain
Swimming pool upgrades at Flow's 88.7fm Ganmain and Ardlethan regions have now been completed, with both respective pools open in time for the summer holiday heat.
Announcement of the project came in mid 2016, with Riverina Nationals' MP Michael McCormack stating the importance of the facilities to the local region.
“In many country communities, the local swimming pool is the place to be in summer. In the Coolamon Shire, everyone knows it is a way of life.
“It’s not just the training ground for local swimming clubs and fitness organisations, it also plays a vital role in community health and safety.
A joint funding commitment of $246,000 to fund capital works for the project came from the Nationals and Coolamon Shire Council, which ensured both Ardlethan and Ganmain were able to access a local pool complex which meets their growing needs.
Works included upgrades to the filtration system and change rooms at both community pools.
Coolamon Shire Mayor John Seymour praised the Federal Government’s commitment, saying: “This funding is the final piece in the puzzle to make our community pools the modern facilities they should be.
“Many of our local facilities have not been upgraded since they were built by volunteer labour in the 1960s and 1970s, which is why Council has already invested money to modernise them.
“A $246,000 commitment from the Federal Government will future proof our pools for the next three or four decades.”
Works began in July 2017, with the project celebrating its completion this month, just in time for the 2017/18 swimming season.
