Police Sting Catches Hive Thieves

Two men are bee-hind bars after a great joint effort from police, PIRSA and locals from the bee-keeping community, following the theft of bee hives from Coonalpyn last year.

The offence is alleged to have occurred sometime between Wednesday 29 November and Tuesday 5 December, when a property just off the Dukes Highway was entered by cutting a padlock and 18 bee hives stolen.

The hives had been marked on the side with 'BRC' by the owner.

Today following an investigation, police from Coonalpyn and Lameroo swarmed on a Tintinara property where they located the repainted bee hives.

A short time later, at a different Tintinara property, police arrested two men.

The men, a 42-year-old man from Tanunda and a 47-year-old man from Williamstown were charged with theft.

They will face the Murray Bridge Magistrates Court at a later date.
