Protecting NSW from Future Flooding

Local councils are being encouraged to apply for grants under the NSW Government’s 2018 Floodplain Management Program.

“This program funds important projects that assess risk and help reduce flood impacts across NSW,” Member for Albury, Greg Aplin said.

“The grants can assist local government with flood studies, flood risk management studies and plans. They can also be applied to works such as flood levees, gates, warning systems and house raising and purchase in high risk areas.”

The grant program aims to reduce the impacts of flooding and flood liability on communities, with the last funding round coming in at $8.84 million, and supporting 59 projects.

Local councils, county councils and other government bodies with floodplain risk management responsibilities are all eligible to apply for a grant.

Applications are now open for the 2018 round of the Floodplain Management Program, and close on 28 March 2018.
