Man Arrested over Far North Crash
A Mimili man has been arrested after he failed to stop his car for police and crashed at Coober Pedy last night.
Just before 10pm on Tuesday 20 March, a Coober Pedy patrol attempted to stop a white Ford sedan for a breath test on Hutchinson Street, but when the patrol activated the emergency lights the driver of the Ford accelerated away and then crashed through a fence at the local drive-in cinema.
Following the crash the male driver ran from the car but he was quickly arrested a short distance away.
A 32-year-old man from Mimili was charged with fail to stop, drink driving after the man allegedly registered a blood alcohol reading of 0.140, plus driving an unregistered uninsured car while driving without a licence.
The arrested man was bailed to appear in court on 6 June.
Fortunately there were no injuries in the crash.
