Live Sheep Exports: What's the Solution?

Live sheep exports from Australia have been the topic of important discussion recently, with shocking footage released, showing terrible conditions for animals on Australian sheep ships headed to the Middle East.

Federal Member for Farrer Sussan Ley has advised the Minister for Agriculture, David Littleproud, that she intends to introduce a Private Members Bill to cease all live sheep exports to the Middle East.

With a review into the independent regulator for live exports set to begin, the Member for Farrer has opposed her Party's stance on the issue, deciding to challenge it on her own.

Flow FM has sought comment from several key stakeholders involved in the issue.

Federal Member for Mallee Andrew Broad joined Anita on the Country Viewpoint on Monday, April 23, for his take on the issue.

Leader of the Australian Conservatives, Cory Bernardi, joined Wayne on Monday's Morning Show to share his views.

On April 24, Wayne shared his views on a new media release providing an update on the Private Members Bill, from Sussan Ley MP.

Federal Member for Farrer Sussan Ley joined Anita on the April 26 edition of the Country Viewpoint to talk about her latest media statement, and the issue as a whole.

President of the Victorian Farmers' Federation (VFF) and Vice President of the National Farmers' Federation (NFF) David Jochinke spoke to Anita on the Country Viewpoint on May 2 to explain the VFF's position on the live export situation.

Livestock SA were contacted by Flow FM in April, but wished not to comment on the issue.

Now on May 14, as the date for Sussan Ley's Private Members Bill to be introduced draws closer, it appears she has gained support from other Members of Parliament.

Anita explained the situation on today's Country Viewpoint.

Cory Bernardi also joined Wayne on Flow's Morning Show to share his opinion on the Bill.

Today, May 21, it has been reported that Labor will support MP Ley's Bill, being introduced this week.

Cory Bernardi again joined Wayne on the Morning Show to explain how the voting process will work, and what the possible outcome may be.

On the May 22 edition of the Country Viewpoint, Anita gave an update on the story, explaining the Bill Sussan Ley has introduced to Parliament as well as recommendations offered in the McCarthy Review, released by Federal Minister for Agriculture, David Littleproud, last week.

Today, May 23, Wayne explored the latest on the situation, including what it would really mean if all live sheep exports to the Middle East were to be banned.

On May 30, Minister Littleproud released a 'Live Export fact check', which Wayne spoke about on the Morning Workflow the following day.

As the issue continues to be debated, Minister Littleproud released the following statement on July 31.

Federal Member for Mallee Andrew Broad was at the Mallee Machinery Field Days on August 1 and shared his thoughts on the current situation and Sussan Ley's Private Members Bill.
