Search for Missing Man Near Kimba Ends

UPDATE: A large-scale two-day search near Kimba on Eyre Peninsula for an Adelaide teenager who hasn’t been seen since April has ended without police finding any evidence of his location.

The extensive inquiry has included repeated searches of the area the vehicle was located, along with interviews and canvasses of motorists and truck drivers in a bid to determine the whereabouts of Mr Redman.

Over the last two days about 50 people including police mounted officers, local investigators and volunteers from the State Emergency Service and Country Fire Service have searched an area covering about 10sqkm.

The search, of challenging terrain, concluded today having found nothing significant.

Police would like to thank everyone who assisted for their time and enormous efforts over the past two days at the scene.

A large-scale search taking place near Kimba on Eyre Peninsula for an Adelaide teenager who hasn’t been seen since April has resumed for the second day.

Scott Redman, 19, is believed to have been an occupant of a vehicle involved in a brief police pursuit on Saturday 21 April.

After police terminated the pursuit it is believed the vehicle turned off the Eyre Highway onto a dirt road.

Two days later, on 23 April, the other occupant of the car was arrested in Whyalla after he hitchhiked from Middleback Range, with the black SUV found abandoned on 25 April at Secret Rocks, about 40km east of Kimba.

The associate formally reported Mr Redman missing on 24 April.

Since that time police have been actively investigating Mr Redman’s movements and whereabouts.

The extensive inquiry has included repeated searches of the area the vehicle was located, along with interviews and canvasses of motorists and truck drivers in a bid to determine the whereabouts of Mr Redman.

Yesterday about 50 people including police mounted officers, local investigators and volunteers from the State Emergency Service and Country Fire Service began a search which is forecast to cover up to 10sqkm.

It was called off last night after nothing significant was found during the search, but resumed this morning with a similar number of people combing the area.

Inspector Mark Hubbard, from the Eyre Western Local Service Area, said the terrain in the area was challenging for searches, with heavy bush in some patches.

“We have carefully searched a couple of key areas again – such as where the car was found – and expanded out from there,” he said.

“At this time we still have no clear information as to Mr Redman’s location but given the passage of time we have growing fears for his well-being.

“It appears he told some friends and family he intended to travel to Western Australia, but we have found no confirmation that he has done so.”
