Buloke Library Ready to Hit the Road

Buloke Shire Council is warming up the engine, getting ready to deliver its own library service from July 1.

The extensive catalogue of over 12,000 new items began arriving in mid-June and the library team have been hard at work cataloguing titles and finalising the finer points of the service.

Free Buloke Library Service membership will give users improved access to collections, a 4 week borrowing period and the convenience of borrowing over the phone, online or in person.

Membership cards will be a “Swift One Card” and can be used at any public library branch that is part of the Swift Consortium Library network.

To celebrate, a special launch event for the Buloke Library Service will be held on Tuesday July 17 from 11am at the Charlton Hall in Armstrong Street.

It will feature guest speaker Graeme Base, the renowned author and illustrator.

Graeme is the man behind children's books such as “Animalia” and will speak on the importance of literature in early years.

Council has communicated with locals that whilst the transition to Buloke Library Service being delivered occurs, people can continue borrowing from their local library service as normal.

Wimmera Regional Library Corporation or Swan Hill Regional Library stock will be able to be returned throughout July and August to the new Buloke Library Service, with staff ensuring all stock is safely returned.

Mayor of Buloke Shire Council, David Pollard said: “It is truly very exciting to be this close to the dawn of the Buloke Library Service.

"To see all the books arriving and the library van all badged and ready to ferry the library stock around is excellent.

"This service will develop into something quite special and I am sure our loyal users will love it and we will attract a new generation of people to this vital service."
