Improving Federation's Flood Management

Federation Council has received $210,000 to improve the way potential flooding in the region is managed, after being announced as a successful recipient of the NSW Government's Floodplain Management grant.

Member for Albury, Greg Aplin, said the grant under the 2018-19 program will help Council better understand the flood levels, risk and exposure.

Urana, Boree Creek, Morundah and Rand were all impacted by floods in 2010 and 2012, with the new grant allowing the local council to prepare risk management studies and plans for each community.

“The funding is a long-term investment to support Councils, and other government bodies who have the primary role of managing flood risk in their communities,” Mr Aplin said.

“The grants assist with flood studies, flood risk management plans and the implementation of works to reduce flood risk.

“They can also support works such as flood levees, flood gates, warning systems and house raising and purchase in high risk areas.
