Update: Police Rescind Declared Dangerous Area in Wallaroo


Police advise that the declared dangerous area at Wallaroo has been rescinded as of 2.06pm on Tuesday 17 July.

There is still a cordoned off crime scene in Daly Street, Wallaroo with Forensic Services attending.

Police continue to search an area in the township of Wallaroo for 25-year-old man Jake Dohnt who is wanted in connection with a pursuit yesterday.


Police spotted Jake Dohnt just before 1am yesterday (Monday 16 July) driving a Commodore sedan on the Spencer Highway and tried to pull him over.

He refused and was last seen on East Terrace before police terminated the pursuit.

Later that day (just after 1pm), police located the Commodore abandoned near East Terrace and Cornish Terrace.

Patrols then spotted him in Daly Street where he allegedly produced a handgun and pointed it at police.

An officer fired a shot at the him and he ran off. No police were physically injured.

Daly Street is currently closed between East Terrace and Moonta Street while Crime Scene Investigators examine the scene where Jake Dohnt allegedly threatened police with a handgun.

Local police with the assistance of STAR officers and the Dog Operations Unit, continue to search for him.

Jake Dohnt is described as being Caucasian, about 160cm tall, 70kg, medium build with brown eyes and light brown hair.

He is wearing black long pants, a black windcheater with a white motif on the front and a black cap.

Police have been trying to contact Jake through his mobile telephone.

"I ask Jake to return SMS messages and mobile telephone calls that have been made by police as we would like to talk to him about his welfare and coming forward so that we can end this current situation safely", Inspector Allison Clark said.


"The aim of this is to encourage Jake to come forward to police so that we can work with him to help this situation come to a peaceful and safe end for all involved".

"I would like to sincerely thank the community for their patience, cooperation and assistance whilst we have been conducting our searches across various locations within the Wallaroo township".

"At this time we believe that Jake is still likely in the Wallaroo area but we have not had any confirmed sightings for some time".

"Further to this - I also appeal to any other person who may know where Jake is or have any information to assist us in locating Jake to please contact the Police Assistance Line immediately on 131 444 or call Triple Zero (000)".

The public and media are requested to stay away from cordoned off areas and abide by any police directions.
