Talking Feedlots in the Riverina
Producers from across the NSW Riverina region are invited to a practical feedlot seminar in Griffith on Tuesday July 31.
The session will cover a range of topics for everyone, from those producers already lot feeding, as well as those who are looking to set up a feedlot, with the event to be held at the Griffith Ex-Servicemen’s Club on Jondaryan Avenue from 10am to 3pm.
Guest speakers on the day include Dr Paul Cusack (Australian Livestock Production Services), Will McCrohon (Riverina Beef Feedlot - JBS Australia) and Callum Stewart (Spencer and Bennett).
Riverina Local Land Services District Veterinarian Sophie Hemley said the workshop will focus on lamb systems but will include information on cattle too.
"We'll cover feedlot design and management, feedlot rations and common health problems we see when lot feeding - these are some of the basics of getting to understand how feedlotting works," she said.
"We will also discuss topics like forward contracts and hear real experiences from Riverina producers who have feedlots in place, so farmers can ensure they're set up properly, and feeding out the right ration at the most affordable price."
Miss Hemley said the Riverina Local Land Services consistently fields a lot of enquiries about lamb feedlot nutrition and systems, so this workshop has been designed to answer some of those questions.
"The purpose of this workshop is to provide accurate and practical recommendations from industry leaders, with the aim to help producers in our region have efficient and profitable feeding systems.
"I encourage any farmers who are considering feedlotting or or already lot feeding to come along with questions," she said.
A light lunch will be provided - RSVP by July 27 for catering purposes to Sophie on 0427 696 895 (call or text) or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
