Speeder Caught in SA's South East
A man has been fined and lost 11 demerit points after he was clocked at over 30km/h over the signed speed limit in the State’s south east yesterday.
About 6.15pm Sunday 5 August police were conducting speed detection duties on the Riddoch Highway near Lochaber when they allegedly detected a black Mercedes Benz travelling at 143km/h in a 110km/h zone.
Police stopped the car and spoke to the driver, a 25-year-old Clovelly Park man, it will be further alleged he returned a positive result of 0.070 when breath tested.
The man was issued a fine of $1653 for speeding and drink driving.
Sergeant Watts from the Limestone Coast Highway Patrol team says: “The drivers are unacceptable. Choosing to drive at excessive speed after having consumed alcohol dramatically increased the risk to himself, his passengers and others on the road of being involved in a fatality or serious injury collision.”
Police continue to conduct high visibility patrols to deter dangerous driving within the Local Service Area.
