Two boys have been arrested in Tailem Bend after stealing a car in Mount Gambier overnight.

About 12.45am Friday 17 August police were called to Commercial Street East in Mount Gambier after a red Ford Laser was stolen from a carpark.

Police searched the area but could not locate the vehicle.

Later, about 2.45am console operators at a service station in Naracoorte called police after two teenagers in a red Ford Laser filled up the car and drove off without paying.

Police from Naracoorte searched the area but were unable to locate the car, but informed Murray Bridge patrols to be on the lookout as the car may be heading their way.

About 5.30am the red Ford Laser pulled into a service station at Tailem Bend.

Officers from Murray Bridge who had been waiting swooped, surrounding the pair and arrested the driver, a 16-year-old boy, and the passenger, a 15-year-old boy.

The Mount Gambier teens are expected to be charged with a number of offences including theft of motor vehicle, illegal use and make off without payment.
